about the power of the gesture may seem futile, so obvious is
its energy... the gesture here though is small in origin... the
casual gesture of a absent-minded doodle...spirals upon spirals
on a notepad... the piled up spirals seem to cancel each other
out... beginning and end disappear... the energy of the movement
seems to get tangled up in a chaos of lines...
after seven spirals – my attention turned painfully inwards – scribbled
down, the leaden weight of my thoughts seems to lift... with every further
page a small concept with a big effect grows out of the depression
of a 41st birthday
reflection on the past, the melancholy dissipates...
of the 41 doodles 41 photographic reproductions come into being,
each one 1 metre
by 1 metre in size... the line of the pencil is about to dissolve
into its parts... the gesturing dynamic of the spirals begins to develop
into a personal work on the potency of 41 years of experiences
